Drone-based timber measurements already implemented in the operations of JTIMBER and JRANGA

The forest resource management company JTIMBER, together with its partner JRANGA, which provides timber harvesting services, has started implementing drone-based timber measurement solutions in its operations for forestry planning and operational control.

Using drones, timber measurements can be carried out remotely, enabling accurate assessment of whether production meets technical requirements – including determining length, diameter, curvature, branching, and identifying potential defects such as rot. Based on the collected data, timber volume is automatically calculated, and all information is quickly processed and transferred for further use.

The collected data is accessible not only to the companies performing the work but also to forest owners, who can review the results of completed operations in real time. This increases operational transparency, strengthens trust between stakeholders, and reduces the risk of potential inaccuracies.

For data processing and analysis, the Trimble software solution CFHarvest is used, already integrated into the operational processes of JTIMBER and JRANGA. This combination of solutions enables more precise planning, more efficient resource management, and consistent improvement of operational efficiency across the entire value chain. By applying these technologies, the companies are strengthening their position in the market as modern, data-driven forestry service providers.
