JTIMBER certified under RED III Directive

This August, JTIMBER became one of the first forest resource management companies in Lithuania to voluntarily complete certification under the SURE scheme, which aligns with the requirements of the European Union’s Renewable Energy Directive (RED III).

The SURE system, officially recognised by the European Commission as a voluntary scheme for the sustainable use of biomass in electricity and heat production and across the entire supply chain, was first adopted by JTIMBER last year. At that time, the certificate confirmed the company’s compliance with the RED II Directive.

This year, reaffirming its commitment to the highest standards of sustainability and responsible operations, JTIMBER underwent certification in accordance with the more demanding requirements of RED III. The successful audit and certification confirm that the company meets the EU’s enhanced renewable energy targets as well as stringent sustainability and greenhouse gas reduction criteria.

The certification process under the SURE scheme was conducted by Preferred by Nature, an international certification organisation.
